BIOGRAPHY
Jon J. Wagner was born in Poughkeepsie to his parents Walter W. and Dorothy Wagner. He has lived and worked in Dutchess County all his life.

After Graduating from Poughkeepsie High School and Dutchess Community College, he began working as an Emergency Medical Technician in Poughkeepsie. Jon entered a pilot program training Paramedics and became one of a handful of local Paramedics at the time.  He worked in that capacity and served as a Paramedic/Supervisor for about seven years.

In 1981 he began serving as a Police Officer with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department. While a member the Police Department, Wagner attended numerous training programs and served as a Police Instructor, Firearms Instructor and Hostage Negotiator. Wagner was promoted to the rank of Detective in 1986, and was involved in the investigation of crimes ranging from thefts to serial homicide. He also performed supervision duties as an acting sergeant.

As Treasurer and an Executive Board Member of the Town of Poughkeepsie PBA (Police Union), Wagner handled the finances of the organization, participated in the process of collective bargaining and municipal labor relations such as benefits, grievences and disciplinary procedures.

Wagner was also charged with the responsibility of writing and administering municipal grants for the Police Department.  Numerous grants were successfully obtained for equipment and personnel. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were obtained at little or no cost to taxpayers. The size of the Department was able to be increased and the overall safety of the Town was improved. The administration of the grants exposed Wagner to many aspects of municipal finances. He worked closely with the Town Comptroller and elected officials.

Wagner was elected a member of the Town of LaGrange Republican Committee in early the 1990's. He was appointed to the Town of LaGrange Zoning Board of Appeals and served multiple terms.

At the end of January 2003, Wagner retired at the rank of Detective after 22 years of service with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department. Wagner is self employed in the field of kitchen design and sales.

In July of 2003 he was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Kevin Donahue who had moved to Florida. In November 2003 Jon was elected to a four year term on the Town Board.  During the 2005 reorganization meeting of the board, Wagner was appointed to the position of Deputy Supervisor. He has attended training programs on Municipal finance, land use and ethics put on by the State Comptrollers Office, Pace University,  and the NYS Association of Towns.

Wagner was elected to a four year term as Town Supervisor in 2005. He is serving his third term as President of the Dutchess County Mayors and Supervisors Association.

Wagner enjoys his German Heritage, and was elected President of Germania in Poughkeepsie NY June 2007. He continues to serve 400 members in that capcity today.

Wagner has lived in LaGrange since 1987. He resides there with his wife of 31 years, Melissa and their two children Erin (age 23) and Matthew (age 19)
